The Turn of The Tide / The End of The Line

Live collaborative artwork with local sailors, Stranraer, 2024.

Live collaborative artwork where local people ‘raised the sails’ in celebration of the past, present and future of Stranraer’s waterfront. Marking a moment in time, where both everything and nothing seems possible. Protest at lost opportunities and new hope for the future set sail together, reconnecting the two broken arms of the harbour in new conversations and balance.

The harbour itself is a transitional space of arrivals and departures, with Stranraer once translating to ‘Safest Harbour’. The East Pier has long been known as ‘the end of the line’, for Scotland, being the last remaining railway pier in the UK. Since the departure of the ferries in 2011, the entire of this site has been fenced off and left to decline. The West Pier is undergoing significant regeneration, with multi-million pound plans for a reimagined industry including a large tidal breakwater structure for safe mooring.
