The Milestone Circle
Permanent installation on Bute Community Forest Shore in collaboration with Queer residents, 2023.
8 locally quarried stones with hand engraved depictions of literal and metaphorical milestones within the lives of eight LGBTQ+ residents and directions to where these took place on the island.
The installation reveals queer historical events such as the Waverley excursion in 1996 by AIDS awareness groups to oral testimonies of everyday interactions with allies, lovers and friends. Inspired by local geological phenomena, Neolithic island features and the presence of milestones for wayfinding around Bute. This installation marks a moment in time for the community of the island and facilitates spaces for future connections to be made.
